The program also includes a “Defying Gravity” Young Performers Song and Dance Camp for ages 5–8 and gives participants the chance to perform in a professional level musical complete with costumes, set, lights, and sound.
• Ages: 5–17 years old
• Price: $257.50 – $1,640.00; $257.50 – $1,440.00; $257.50 – $643.75; $257.50 – $715.85; $257.50 – $437.75
La Canada Junior Theater Summer Camps is now in its eighteenth year. The program states that it limits enrollment to allow for smaller class sizes and more individual attention, and that each child is featured in the show with solo singing and speaking lines. It also states that there is adult supervision at all times, including during rehearsal breaks and lunch, and that older teens act as assistants alongside professional adult teachers. The mission of the program is to offer classes in singing, dance, and acting, with an emphasis on team building and student leadership while helping students expand their confidence and performance skills. The program describes its summer camps as fun and notes that participants can build lifelong friendships with fellow cast members, with experienced, fun, and innovative teaching combined with fully realized professional level musical theater productions.
The leadership team includes Susan Spann (Artistic Director, Producer), Deborah Lederer Robin (Director / Musical Director), Holly Seidcheck (Choreographer), Tayah Howard (Director), and Zoe Bright Howard (Director/Producer/Production Manager). Susan is a veteran teacher and actress who has produced local children’s theater for over 25 years, has over twenty years of teaching experience, and previously taught in the Performing Arts Academy of John Marshall High School in Los Angeles; before moving to Los Angeles, she was a member of the nationally ranked Indiana State University gymnastics team and a gymnastics coach for children. Miss Deborah has taught music to children of all ages for nearly twenty years, has worked in professional theater for most of her life, studied at LAMDA (The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art), was a principal actress/singer/dancer at Arizona’s Gaslight Theatre, toured schools performing multiple musicals and Shakespeare, and has taught yoga, acting, movement, and art to children and adults. Holly Seidcheck is a professionally trained dancer, actor, and choreographer with a B.A. in Theatre from the University of Colorado, has trained extensively with companies including Batsheva, David Dorfman, and George Staib Dance Company, works as a screen actor, and is a dedicated yoga practitioner.
